What is Vine?

Vine is a mobile video application used with Twitter. Vine allows users to create six second video clips that can be shared on Twitter, Facebook, and other social networks.

Vine can help marketers discover new and fun ways to tell stories about products or services, share information about the company, or provide information and resources to viewers.

How to Use:

Like all social media, begin by observing and learning. Download the app on your smartphone, create an account (from an email or using your Facebook login) and follow other users and companies to see how they’re using it.

Start experimenting

Create in-house videos to experiment with the medium. Limit the audience who can view these “test” videos, so you can explore how and when to use Vine before producing public content. Show the process of creating your product, or work with a client or fan to demonstrate use of the product. Figure out who and what your resources are then put them to good use.

Build Vine into your marketing strategy and have a plan for its use.

Ask yourself how Vine can strengthen your current message, and if it’s an effective way to reach your target audience. Explore what you want your viewers to get out of your videos. Consider the medium you’re using and the best way to reach people through it. Since Twitter is based on real-time sharing consider what trends users are talking about, and if there’s a way to tailor your video to address those trends.

Be different!

Don’t be afraid to try things you haven’t seen other people do. You might catch on to something before anyone else. It’s ok to take some risk, it’s the best way to learn!
